Hi Lynnela,
I wanted to make sure that I wrote you this morning as it is your first day of school. Remember what that was like when we were younger. The days before we knew each other. It was kind of the same back then....me in the big city....you in the small town. Funny, huh?
So on your first day, I wanted to wish you luck! And to give you some advice -- be nice to others, share your toys, say please and thank you...and don't forget to go kick some ass! You have been waiting and planning for this opportunity for a long time. Enjoy it. Breath it in. All our experiences in life inform who we are (and will inform your writing).
I loved hearing your first impressions of Carbondale. I am looking forward to my first visit. Carbondale sounds a little like Las Vegas...one main road and nothing all around. OK, they are a little different. Carbondale has cornfields surrounding it and Vegas has desert but besides that these cities seem very similar. ;-)
I look forward to trying all the restaurants you find. You know my theory: it is all about the next meal. I did say I wanted to go to some chains, as in NYC I avoid them at every cost, but I welcome the chance to try the less "commercial" places. I like Thai. We should go to the place you described in your letter. I would like to meet Edie. You should definitely buy a piece of her art work. Maybe you can search out the local artists and start a small collection.
I have to run out to several meetings now. I will think of you on my way into Manhattan on the subway.
Break a leg today! I look forward to hearing about all of your adventures.
Miss you!
xoxo,
T
